Join Sherry and Chris for a conversation and explanation of why Ekasilk Plus products last longer than more conventional foam abrasives. If you're frustrated with tearing, loading and broken sponges, check out this video and give Ekasilk Plus a try for your finishing needs.
Finishing can be a very tedious, time consuming and frustrating part of woodworking. When using conventional abrasives for finishing purposes, they often get torn or loaded very quickly, and needing frequent replacements.
Thanks to the smart design and construction of flocked back foam abrasives, we can now not only dramatically reduce your time sanding primed or painted surfaces, but offer you an unparalleled finish. EKASILK PLUS sponges are able to outlast conventional abrasives by up to 30 times longer and that means replacing them less frequently and saving money in the process.
EKASILK PLUS sponges have 3 layers that work together to make this happen: the hook and loop flocking, the open or closed cell foam (depending on which thickness you get), and the grit layer. The flocking or sometime called velour, allows you to attach the sponge on a sander, which results in speeding up sanding in areas where you used to do it all by hand, and giving a more even finish.
But the main reason behind the longer lifespan is the grit layer. Not only is the foam flexible for contours and various shapes, the grain on the top layer is actually attached to a flexible latex material and then laminated. This unique structure allows for it to be sturdy, preventing tears, and flexible to espouse the shape of your work piece. Additionally, this design allows for the dust and residue from sanding to be dissipated faster and can be easily blown out with an air chuck. Lastly, all EKASILK PLUS sponges are available with and without vented holes to maximize dust extraction.
If you are doing a lot of finish sanding, particularly on various profiles, moldings, rounded edges or contours, EKASILK PLUS sponges are the perfect sanding solution for your business.
